About Matt Anderson

Welcome! I’m Matt, a Technical Support Engineer at Amazon Web Services. Originally from Wyoming, I traded the high plains for the Pacific Northwest four years ago and am currently based in the Camas/Portland area.

Professional Journey

Video, data, and cloud

In my day-to-day work I specialize in video engineering — analyzing broadcasting standards like SCTE-35 and optimizing GOP sizing across AWS Elemental services like MediaLive and MediaTailor.

Data, AI, and infrastructure

I’m heavily invested in exploring the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, and cloud infrastructure. Whether I’m deep diving into local LLMs, refining Linux development environments with tools like tmux and sar, or researching high-performance hardware for local AI workloads, I’m always looking for ways to streamline operations and push technical boundaries.

Side projects

When I’m not troubleshooting, I channel that technical energy into side projects like SARkart — a system performance monitoring tool I’m developing that features a racing-themed aesthetic.

Off the Screen

Beyond the terminal

Keeping the mind sharp and the surroundings creative.

Gaming

I’m a big fan of competitive strategy, specifically spending my time in Dota 2 and StarCraft 2.

Music & live shows

My playlist spans a wide mix — roots and country artists like Colter Wall and Tyler Childers, Midwest Emo, and late-90s/2000s alt-rock. When I need to focus on code or study, it’s strictly classical. I also try to catch live shows and festivals around the Portland music scene whenever I can.

Home improvement

I enjoy diving into interior design and DIY projects. Whether it’s experimenting with limewash walls, laying dark blue tile, or upgrading a room with brushed gold fixtures, I love bringing a modern aesthetic to my space.

Tails

A good portion of my free time is spent unplugging and exploring the PNW on long walks with my yellow dog, Tails — who is, without a doubt, the goodest boy.
